It was a match of many twists and turns and rain delays as Maria took her 26th career singles title.

On her wrist as she was holding the trophy, her sparkling TAG Heuer Forluma 1 Lady Steel & Ceramic Pavée, for the second time of the year already!

A grass expert, Maria Sharapova is dominating the tour on clay this year. Her very strong serve and her amazing energy make and will make a difference as she is heading to Paris for the French Open soon after a few well deserved days off.

TAG Heuer is taking industrial integration further: it is doubling its mechanical chronograph movement manufacturing capacity by building a new site in Chevenez (Canton of Jura) which will create 100 jobs and be operational by the end of 2013. The site will produce the in-house Calibre 1887 mechanical chronograph that was launched two years ago, plus a brand new calibre which is being developed internally in order to complete the range of TAG Heuer high-end/high-performances chronographs.

Last night TAG Heuer hosted its highly anticipated Grand Prix Event at the Melbourne Flagship boutique with a special guest appearance by TAG Heuer Ambassador and Formula 1 champion, Jenson Button.

 

A stellar line up of Australian identities and VIPs attended the high profile cocktail event, including Brian McFadden and fiancé Vogue Williams, Miss Universe winner and TV personality Rachael Finch, model and personality Erika Heynatz, actor Jai Courtney, and ambassador of the 2012 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix Kate Peck. High profile sporting identities included Olympic gold medallists Lydia Lassila and Malcolm Paige, AFL footballers Scott Pendlebury (and partner Alix Davis), Sharrod Wellingham and Chris Dawes, and Rugby Union players Nick Phipps and Hugh Pyle.

 

Button arrived in true Formula 1 glamour with TAG Heuer Gird girls presenting a guard of honour to welcome the champion driver. A week ago, the Mikrograph 100, which measures and displays 1/100th of a second with a central hand — and which was the technological base for the Mikrotimer Flying 1000 — won the Montres & Passion 2011 “Grand Prix du Public.”

The Grand Prix de l'Horlogerie de Genève is the Swiss watch industry’s most important award competition. 500hz beating at 3.6 million beats per hour

The game-changing speed and ultra-high high frequency of the in-house built Mikrotimer shatters every record in watchmaking. The previous best-time was set in March 2005 by TAG Heuer with the modular Calibre 360, and reconfirmed in January 2011 by TAG Heuer’s integrated-central hand display Mikrograph 100, the first and only mechanical chronographs ever commercialized to achieve 1/100th accuracy. The Mikrotimer Flying 1000 is an incredible ten times faster, making it 125 times faster than a 99% of Swiss best mechanical chronographs. Its central chronograph hand completes a full rotation 10-times per second!

6th Man on board of Oracle Racing AC45 "Coutts" in San Diego 3rd Round of America's Cup World series 2011-2012. By Jean-Christophe Babin, President and CEO of TAG Heuer, partner of Oracle Racing, the Defender for the forthcoming 34th America's Cup.

As a former sailing instructor myself when I was much younger, I can only be passionate about the epic and legendary America's Cup history. It was first run in 1851, and as such is standing as the oldest and most prestigious trophy of modern sports history. Twice partner of challengers teams in 2002 and 2007 I had the amazing chance to be "tolerated" as the 17th man on both USA-76 and CHN-95, two giant IACC 25 meters / 24 tons monohull boats. These giant boats were more comparable to Le Mans LMP 1 prototypes than to Formula 1. They had an incredible ability to sail upwinds at stunning 16 degrees angles which on any other sailboat would mean standing still in front of the wind ! Even though the Cup was extraordinary, these boats raced quite far from the shores and had many races cancelled or postponed making the sport very difficult to broadcast and even to understand except for specialists. With their 19 tons bulb underwayer to ensure the upwinds performance, they were also looking very stable for the non specialist, somehow lacking the spectacularity mandatory to turn a sport global and broadly followed. Last, as the next Cup would be run anywhere between 1 to 5 years from the previous one, with no competition in between, the sport despite its great history and utmost performances remained a very marginal niche in comparison with Formula 1, despite similar huge budgets for the competing teams. It was not sustainable.

 

With Oracle led by Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts winning in 2010 the 33rd America's Cup and thus becoming he Defender in charge of the rules for the 34th America's Cup in San-Francisco in September 2013, everything has changed for the better. First, and in order to create on-going public intest, the America's Cup World series have been created, on similar lines as a Formula 1 world championship, with 7 events in 2011-12 and another 7 in 2012-13 prior to the Louis Vuitton Cup and 34th America's Cup. Then the heavy monohulls have left room for the series to ultra-light and ultra fast 1.4 tons only "all-carbon fiber" wing + sails powered multihulls, the AC45, all built in New Zealand from the same shipyard to reduce costs and ensure close performances. They are the fastest racing sailing boats ever built and compare by all means to Formula 1. Their unique combination of performances, technology and design make them natural partners for TAG Heuer. Then the racing rules have turned the races "TV and Public-compatible" with a combination of fleet and match races of limited timelenght and guaranteed starting time, which combined with the latest digital technologies, allows to follow the thrilling competitions as easily as a Formula 1 Grand Prix. Not to mention the racecourse close to the shore and allowing a large public, like we had in San Diego (more than 20.000 on shores), to watch the fighting boats from very close. These fastest sailing boats helmed by the best sailors ever in the world have started to compete in Cascais, Portugal in September 2011. San Diego was the 3rd round of the season. I had the chance to be there and compete for 25 minutes in match race on board of Oracle "Coutts" skippered by Darren Bundock, and competing against GreenComm Racing from Spain. What an experience !


As the "6th man", you mostly participate to the weight (max 100kg, being much lighter the crew had to add 20kg weights belts to the stern) and are kindly but firmly asked to lie down at the stern of the AC45 in a semi-rigid safety net and a small cord on both sides to try to cling to something and not fall into the sea. As a courtesy and for the sake of efficiency though, you work too, changing sides in ideally perfect sync with the crew each time the boat turns and change wind direction. For the rest you just open your eyes and admire the incredible manoeuvering of the team of 5 top professionals made of a skipper, a tactician and three members responsible for setting, grinding and regulating the sails and gennaker under the coordination of the skipper, Darren. 7 minutes before start, all 5 members set-up their on board computer and TAG Heuer Aquaracer Digi-Ana countdowns on 420 seconds, closely observing GreenComm boat and trying to figure out with the medium and fast  changing wind the best potential options to gain advantage at the start which would allow to control the race. "5 minutes !", the tensions rises and everyone starts to concentrate and test manoeuvers to make sure of the perfect sync necessary for winning. A second lost means 10 to 15 meters, that is the boat length often making the difference between the winner and the other.....Accelerations are amazingly quick so much the boat is light and the combination of wing and sail powerful and responsive. like a supercharged engine with 800 nm torque ! The weak 6 knots wind is turned magically into a 19 knots speed ! In stronger winds, the AC45 can easily surpass 35 knots speed. Who said that wind energy has no future ?!!! One minute, thirty second, "Coutts" is already full speed towards the starting line with GreenComm arriving equally fast from a different angle. 5-4-3-2-1...the tension is extreme as crossing the line 1 second too early means a two boats length penalty seriously jeopardizing the chances to win. Hence the importance of the accuracy of TAG Heuer Aquaracer chronographs countdown precision. Amazingly Darren crosses the line less than a second after the "0" immediately taking a half boat length advantage over GreenComm so close that form the stern I can virtually shake hands with their skipper. Darren observes the ever changing winds to avoid taking a wrong option and forcing GreenComm to decide for an alternative route which Darren immediately imitates as the race leader to keep control. "Coutts" is now speeding at 20 knots with a 30 degrees angle (5 meters above the water level) towards the first race committee bow. The crew prepares the immense gennaker for the next downwind following our first upwind. 5-4-3-2-1-Go !, "Coutts" rotates on itself passing a few inches off the bow with the gennaker perfectly launched and already speeding up the boat towards the next bow under the scrutinizing eyes of the Race Committee boats, the Louis Vuitton Timing boats and the many "Protector" support speedboats used by Oracle, not to mention the hundredth of spectator boats surrounding the racing course. Amazing. We now have 5 boat length advantage and even if it's done, Darren as a top professional maintains a maximum pressure and concentration till the finish line to win with a stunning 48 seconds advantage. Waouh ! This is really an experience and the IACC boats by comparison look so slow and heavy. And today the race was only with the AC45 (for 45 feet). For the Louis Vuitton and America's Cup, they will move to AC72, that is multihulls virtually twice longer and more powerful. Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts have really changed the game for the better, to the great joy of James Spithill and Darren Bundock the two skippers. The America's Cup World series are really the "fastest boats in the world with the best sailors in the world". And TAG Heuer is proud to partner with the "fastest of the fastest boats and the best of the best sailors" namely Oracle Racing, Russell, James and Darren. A unique experience I will never ever forget.

SAN DIEGO (Nov. 17, 2011) — Avant-garde Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer has partnered with ORACLE Racing as the Official Watch and Eyewear of the America’s Cup champion team.

 

TAG Heuer’s prestigious shield logo will be featured on the wingsails of ORACLE Racing’s hyper-performance catamarans. The ultra-precise AQUARACER 500M Chronographs will keep time for CEO Russell Coutts and skipper James Spithill.

 

Additionally, TAG Heuer’s technologically advanced eyewear – especially the new sporty RACER line – will shield team members’ eyes from potentially damaging ultra-violet rays and salt spray.

 

“High-performance and precision go right to the heart of what it takes to succeed in the America’s Cup, and this is exactly what TAG Heuer represents,” said Coutts. “TAG Heuer’s and ORACLE Racing’s core values couldn’t be more closely aligned.”

On 11 November 2011, during the prestigious Watch of the Year evening organized by the Ringier Group in Geneva, TAG Heuer was twice acclaimed by an audience of over 450 personalities from the world of watchmaking and from communications. The Mikrograph, the first chronograph to display one hundredth of a second, thanks to a central hand, was awarded the best watch of the year by the public, whilst the campaign that supported its launch was awarded the Best Campaign prize. Overwhelming recognition for the brand, the only one who had twice the chance to be on the podium.

For such an innovative watch, we needed a campaign that would also break the mould, by dramatically staging the notion of precision in an original and creative manner” declared Jean-Christophe Babin, Tag Heuer’s President and CEO.

 

Designed, patented, developed and manufactured entirely in the TAG Heuer Haute Horlogerie workshop at La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Carrera Mikrograph 1/100th marks a milestone in the watchmaking industry: thanks to an escapement beating at 50hz, or 360,000 vibrations an hour, its central hand can measure and display time with 100th of a second precision. This is a major TAG Heuer innovation, confirming the brand’s leadership in the mastery of high frequency and the measurement of infinitely small intervals of time.

 

Mechanical innovation serving ultimate precision has thus been the driver of the development of the Mikrograph. Two limited editions were launched on the market with 150 pieces each, one with a brown central dial and the other in anthracite grey,. To woo the lover of beautiful timepieces, the advertising visuals needed to be as creative, avant-garde and unexpected as the product they were promoting. It was vital to pay tribute to the art of watchmaking and at the same time deliver a simple message : high precision. And what is more precise than nature itself, so what could be more original than reproducing nature’s ultimate perfection using watch components? Developed with CLM BBDO, the TAG Heuer advertising agency, the campaign won the approval of a jury of communication professionals who were able to appreciate the poetry and refinement of the visuals and grasp the significance of the instant of time represented in that artistic way.

The celebration was graced by Mohammed Ben Sulayem; TAG Heuer local ambassador, Osama Ibrahim Seddiqi, representing Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons and Eric Vergnes, General Manager of TAG Heuer Middle East.

 

Lewis Hamilton appearance coincided with an exciting milestone for TAG Heuer, as the brand is celebrating 150 Years of Mastering Speed. This was the first time that Lewis visited the brand's best performing boutique in the region, before attending the Grand Prix that will be held in Abu Dhabi the following weekend.

 

Guests who attended the event were left with a very interesting challenge of beating Lewis’ performance on the F1 simulator which was available during and after the event in Dubai Mall Gold Souk Atrium.

Few months earlier, it was the AUDI sport team who was winning the 79th edition of the historic Le Mans race. The german racecar team put the victory record higher, with now 10 victories in Le Mans.

TAG Heuer turned the glittering city-state of Monaco into its own private. Principality last weekend when it hosted a dazzling series of celebrity events centered around the most glamorous date on the international motor-racing circuit — the famous Monaco Grand Prix.

The TAG Heuer events, which were attended by a dizzying array of royalty, F1 stars and celebrities, were held to showcase the Swiss brand’s “150 Years of Motor Racing” celebrations and its new Official Partner, Official Watch and Official Eyewear of the Monaco Grand Prix, the world’s most glamorous race organized by Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM).

Celebrations with a star-studded Monaco GP Weekend

The festivities kicked off Friday, May 27th at the Amber Lounge Fashion Show, a star-studded charity event held at the stunning poolside venue at Le Meridien Beach Plaza Hotel in Monaco under the high patronage of H.S.H Prince Albert II. The hottest night-time ticket of the Monaco GP weekend saw F1 race drivers and the ladies of F1 team up with top fashion models to showcase eveningwear by British designer Matthew Williamson and the latest in high-fashion timepieces by TAG Heuer. Among the F1 drivers on the catwalk were Felipe Massa, Vitaly Petrov, Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta, Jaime Alguersuari, Nico Rosberg, Jerome d‘Ambrosio, Heikki Kovalainen, Sergio Perez and Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Presented by BBC’s Jake Humphrey and overseen by H.S.H Prince Albert de Monaco’s bride-to-be Charlene Wittstock, the charity event raises funds and awareness for the Special Olympics. A highlight of the evening was a special auction of two exclusive TAG Heuer watches: a TAG Heuer Formula 1 Lady Steel & Ceramic Chronograph with Diamond dial and diamond bezel, and a McQueen Monaco Chronograph with the iconic blue dial of the original worn by the actor in the classic 1970 race film, Le Mans. Both timepieces have been especially emblazoned with ACM logo for the occasion giving them a unique flair compared to collections available in Boutiques. The Monaco reached the tremendous price of EURO 22’000.- at the auction and the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Lady Euro 16’000.-. The Amber Lounge After Party extended late into the night to a special performance by R&B pop Taio Cruz on the beach of the Meridien Beach Plaza Hotel.

On Saturday May 28th, TAG Heuer held an exclusive party on a private yacht, during which special guests met with the TAG Heuer racing Ambassador and F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton.

Over the week-end, TAG Heuer gave an exclusive tour of the paddocks and hosted special interview sessions with Jack Heuer, Alain Prost, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, the 2 aces from Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

The race itself was a fitting backdrop for the exciting launch of three new chronographs in TAG Heuer’s iconic Monaco model: the Monaco V4 Rose Gold, proudly sported by Lewis Hamilton all weekend, the Monaco V4 Titanium and the single-piece creation, Monaco Mikrograph. The celebrated watch line, started by Jack Heuer in 1969, is, like the Grand Prix from whence it gets its name, synonymous with sporting glamour the world over.

The one-off Monaco Mikrograph will make a return visit to Monaco on September 22 for the Only Watch charity auction. The unique timepiece will be donated for auction at the charity event, which supports research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Lewis Hamilton proudly presented the watch to Luc Pettavino, the President of Only Watch.

As the Official Watch and Eyewear of the Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer was visible everywhere on TV : through TAG Heuer flags prominently displayed on bridges and trackside, through our TVC with Lewis Hamilton on giant screens and through a special starting-grid event showcasing the famous Formula One “grid girls”. At the start of the race, the 24 stunning women will hold up boards bearing the racecar drivers’ names while wearing Formula 1 Lady Steel and Ceramic watches, TAG Heuer Avant-Garde eyewear and specially designed TAG Heuer mini-dresses inspired by Steve McQueen’s racing suit in the movie Le Mans.

As part of its 2011 “Mastering Speed” commemoration of its most famous source of inspiration — a century and a half of professional motorsports — TAG Heuer is now an official partner of the Monaco Grand Prix, the world’s most glamorous race organized by Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM).

The historical agreement was formally signed on May 27th, 2011 on the legendary starting grid of the Grand Prix by Jean-Christophe Babin, President and CEO of TAG Heuer, and Michel Boéri, President of the Automobile Club of Monaco.

As the Official Watch and Eyewear of the Monaco Grand Prix, TAG Heuer will have a visible presence throughout this year’s race, with TAG Heuer flags prominently displayed on bridges and trackside and a special starting-grid event showcasing the famous Formula One “grid girls”. At the start of the race, the 24 stunning women will hold up boards bearing the racecar drivers’ names while wearing Formula 1 Lady Steel and Ceramic watches, TAG Heuer Avant-Garde eyewear and specially designed TAG Heuer mini-dresses inspired by Steve McQueen’s racing suit in the movie Le Mans.

TAG Heuer global ambassador Lewis Hamilton joined celebrities Elva Hsiao, Guangjie Li, Bei Pei, and a hundred or so special guests to enjoy the exhilaration of this evening's festivities.

For racing fans that enjoyed the Formula One qualifying races during the day, the world of racing created by TAG Heuer later that night at the Formula One Party was definitely a thrilling conclusion to the day. The passion for speed filled Shanghai’s Red Town as the roar of engines reverberated in the night air, and the giant racecar instrument panel at the entrance and the racetrack warning marks on the street recreated the atmosphere the Formula One track, making you feel like a Formula One racecar might zoom past at any minute. Legendary drivers Steve McQueen, Lewis Hamilton, and Jenson Button were there to testify to the cutting-edge performance of TAG Heuer. In the center of the dance floor, 2 racing simulators were set up for guests to enjoy the excitement of racing in famous tracks around the world.

The special guests in attendance that night included executives from TAG Heuer as well as television, film, and music superstars from around the world such as Elva Hsiao, Guangjie Li, and Bei Pei. On the red carpet, Guangjie Li wore a debonair jacket matched with cool dark sunglasses, which gave him the look of a gentleman racecar driver. Meanwhile, Bei Pei dressed extravagantly as the quintessential modern girl. When Elva Hsiao appeared on the red carpet, she became the center of attention. Accompanied by the exciting beats of the well-known DJ Devin Luciun, the guests enjoyed the specially prepared cocktails on the dance floor and immersed themselves in a night overflowing with excitement.

 

The high point of this event was undoubtedly the appearance of Formula One world champion driver Lewis Hamilton, whose arrival immediately sent waves of excitement through the crowd. Especially lucky were the fans who got a chance to interact with him during the racing simulator, which turned out to be the climax of the night. The carefully designed computer game platform allowed people to view TAG Heuer’s exclusive Formula One racecar simulation game on the big screen. The realistic racetrack scene allowed the guests to experience the thrilling speed of a Formula One racecar as if they were really there. No one at the party could keep their eyes off the simulated race as Lewis Hamilton used his flawless racing skills to attract everyone. It was amazing how smoothly he used the brakes, took the turns, and drifted. It was apparent to everyone that TAG Heuer really knows how to discover and cultivate racing talent. TAG Heuer discovered Lewis Hamilton on the racetrack in the UK back in 2003 and immediately invited him to join the TAG Heuer Renault formula car racing team. After that, Lewis Hamilton’s racing career took off like a rocket, as he soon became an unbeatable driver. Whenever he stood on the winner’s podium after a Formula One race, you could see a TAG Heuer watch on his wrist which always accompanied him in his victories.

Taking a look back at the past, TAG Heuer’s close cooperation with top drivers can be traced back to the very beginning of the Formula One championship era. In 1969, TAG Heuer became the first watch brand to get involved in sponsoring drivers by working together with Jo Siffert, a relationship that has become the stuff of legend. In recognition of their achievements in the sport Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Frank Williams, Jody Scheckter and Dario Franchitti were the 2011 inductees. Presenting to the third inductee, 1979 Ferrari F1 World Champion Jody Scheckter, the honour was bestowed on the South African racer by the CEO of TAG Heuer, Jean-Christophe Babin and five-time Grand Prix winner John Watson.

Hosted by F1 BBC presenter Jake Humphrey the event was a fantastic success, firmly placing it at the start of the F1 calendar. The great and good of Formula One gathered for this event, with personalities including Sir Frank Williams, Sir Stirling Moss, Jody Scheckter, Dario Franchitti, John Watson, Murray Walker, Tony Brooks, Eddie Jordan, Nick Mason, Chris Rea, James Martin, Karun Chandhok, Anthony Hamilton and Lord March in attendance on the night.

In 2010, Mario Andretti, Tony Brooks, Jackie Ickx and Ron Dennis were inducted at the inaugural Hall of Fame event, along with founding members Enzo Ferrari, Tazio Nuvolari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Jim Clark, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

TAG Heuer is proud to announce that World Rally star Sébastien Ogier has joined the elite corps of racing champions on the TAG Heuer "Dream Team" of Brand Ambassadors.

The French driver, winner of the Junior Rally Championship in 2008 and now driving for Citroen's top team in WRC, will participate worldwide in TAG Heuer's "150 Years of Motor-Racing" celebrations in 2011, alongside Vodafone McLaren Mercedes stars Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button and four-time F1 Champion Alain Prost.

"All the great heroes of motor-racing," said the 28-year-old Ogier, "from Juan Manuel Fangio to Ayrton Senna to Lewis Hamilton, have been part of the TAG Heuer legend. Now I'm thrilled to be part of it too, and I will do my best to merit the honor."

After his impressive showing last season with the Citroen Junior Team — including two wins in the WRC Championship — Sébastien Ogier will partner this year with his countryman and seven-time World Champion Sébastien Loeb. After his impressive 4th place overall finish last year, Ogier is widely expected to be challenger for the 2011 WRC title. The thirteen-race season is played out on five continents and kicks off February 10th with the Swedish Rally.

In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, the Swiss Avant-Garde brand signed an agreement with Swiss energy distributor VITEOS and Planair, a Swiss consulting firm specialized in environmental issues, to equip the rooftops of its four buildings with solar panels.

The decision to undertake the feasibility study came at direction of President and CEO Jean-Christophe Babin following Leonardo DiCaprio’s visit of the TAG Heuer factory in March this year.

Today begins the construction of solar roofing for our factories in La Chauds-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Upon completion, the project will represent the largest solar roof on any private company in Western Switzerland.

“Leonardo visited the factory with an eye on everything that could be done to reduce our energy consumption” said Babin. “His factory visit in La Chaux-de-Fonds turned into an inspiring and creative environmental audit. Leonardo combined his environmental mind with a highly respectful approach toward our staff, making his visit an impactful highlight of TAG Heuer’s 150th anniversary celebration.” 

In reaching this decision, many aspects of the company’s sustainable development policy were discussed and several brilliant ideas were proposed. Planair supported TAG Heuer in conducting feasibility studies on the various options. An agreement on the photovoltaic roofs was reached at the end of September. The deal will commit TAG Heuer and VITEOS for a minimum of 15 years for the installation of over 500 photovoltaic panels dispatched on the roofs of TAG Heuer’s four buildings in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The annual production should reach 100’000 kWh. The construction will begin today and continue in December. The new solar fed electric system should start running over the winter.

Jean-Christophe Babin remarked: “The annual production we expect is comparable to 400’000 kilometers with a Tesla electric roadster. We just celebrated our 150th anniversary with the first world tour in a 100% electric car, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster. During an eventful Odyssey, we rode over 37’000 km. The math is simple: our electricity production will be equivalent to over 10 trips around the world with an electric car! “

The project, which is expected to cost 750’000 Swiss Francs, is co-financed by TAG Heuer and VITEOS. The photovoltaic panels will be supplied by a European company in order to limit the carbon footprint of shipping the equipment. The deal also includes TAG Heuer’s commitment to the local environmental treaties to reduce the company’s greenhouse gas emissions by 17% over the next ten years, positioning them as a contributor Switzerland’s pursuit of Kyoto Protocol set objectives. With this project, TAG Heuer, mastering time for over 150 years, enters a new era mastering energy.

This announcement coincides with the release of a first Leonardo DiCaprio co-designed mechanical watch, the Aquaracer 500M, which was redesigned by DiCaprio as part of an initiative to raise money in support of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International, two of the most influential and effective environmental organizations in the world.

Since DiCaprio joined TAG Heuer’s impressive roster of Ambassadors in 2009, the company has been walking the green line more than ever.

“TAG Heuer is a company that gets it”, declared DiCaprio in a speech in Basel earlier this year. “Because TAG Heuer understands that they have a corporate mission, but also a global mission, a mission that is bigger than all of us. The return of a TAG Heuer Legend

Alain Prost was wearing TAG Heuer colors and chronographs when he won three of his four FIA Formula One World championships for McLaren in the late 80s. The second most prolific winner in F1 history, Prost took a total of 51 victories, 33 pole positions, 41 best laps and 106 podiums in 199 races between 1980 and 1993. His smooth, relaxed driving style earned him the nickname “Professor” but it was his intense competitive edge that won him the respect of fellow drivers and the admiration of motor-sports fans around the world. In 1999, he received the World Sports Awards of the Century alongside Pelé, Muhammed Ali, Carl Lewis and Steffi Graf.

In 1969, Jo Siffert was the 1st racing ambassador while in 1971, Heuer was the 1st non technical sponsor to partner with a Formula One team, the mythical Scuderia Ferrari. Since the 70’, TAG Heuer was always associated with the best events, teams and drivers (including Jacky Ickx, Clay Regazzoni, Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Mika Häkkinen, Jacques Villeneuve, David Coulthard, Kimi Räikkönen, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in F1).

 

For next year’s “150 Years of Mastering Speed” celebrations, TAG Heuer will continue and reinforce its partnership with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in F1 (27 consecutive years) , with Audi Sport for Endurance races and at Le Mans 24 Hours, with Indy 500 and with Audi,  McLaren GT cars as well as Tesla Electric Roadster.

The watch is estimated to fetch £6,000-8,000 and will be sold alongside The Haslinger Collection of fine and rare Heuer watches at Bonhams New Bond Street saleroom.

 

All proceeds from its sale will be donated to Green Cross International - an organisation closely supported by TAG Heuer through their brand ambassador Leonardo di Caprio.
The charity was founded in 1993 under the initiative of Mikhail Gorbachev to respond to the combined challenges of security, poverty and environmental degradation to ensure a sustainable and secure future for all.

On October 14, TAG Heuer welcomed Mr. Chen Daoming, who’s one of the most prestigious Chinese actors, as the latest brand ambassador. A grand press conference was organized to announce the news at Beijing MOMA Contemporary Broadway Cinema. Meanwhile, TAG Heuer also launched a new advertising campaign starred by Mr. Chen Daoming.

29 September 2010 – The Odyssey of Pioneers, the first world tour of an electric roadster, ended in Paris, at the LVMH Headquarters, with a cortege of artists and celebrities who came together for the occasion. Amongst them, Leonardo DiCaprio, who launched the tour six months ago in Basel, HRH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Bernard Arnault, President of the LVMH Group, all committed to the same sustainable development goal. The festivities organized for TAG Heuer’s 150th anniversary were brought to an impressive close.

Driven by Elon Musk, Chairman and co-founder of Tesla Motors, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster made its entry into the Atrium at 22 av. Montaigne, applauded by over 400 guests. Jean-Christophe Babin, TAG Heuer’s CEO, was there to also welcome Alain Prost, Jean Todt, Antoine Arnault and Gérald de Palmas, Cécile de Menibus, just to name a few.

"If I count all the World Records of which we are so proud, I reach a total of over 50 patents, which means that every two or three years we have created a milestone in the history of watchmaking. The car arrived in London on the penultimate leg of its remarkable, zero-emission journey around the world. The electrically-powered supercar is almost at the end of the record-breaking trip which forms part of TAG Heuer's 150th anniversary celebrations. After opening the Start Eco Car parade at Buckingham Palace on Sunday, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster was driven by Sir Stirling Moss to Selfridges, to join the 300 guests hosted by TAG Heuer.

As Jack Heuer said in his speech "We are here to show you what we are made of" !

And we did.

Since setting-off from Geneva in January, the TAG Heuer Tesla has travelled to Basel, Monaco, Milan, Budapest, Warsaw, Moscow, Delhi, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Miami and New York - by far the longest journey ever made in an all-electric vehicle. Following London, the car will continue on to Paris for the closing event for a memorable night of celebration.

The TAG Heuer Tesla roadster opened the Start Eco Car Spectacular outside Buckingham Palace. The Odyssey of Pioneers car was driven by leading entrepreneur and TV's Dragons Den personality, James Caan.

TAG Heuer provided the timing equipment for the day along with a branded start and finish line for the parade of 'eco cars'. HRH The Prince of Wales founded the START Initiative to focus on sustainable living in the UK. In London this was marked by a 'Garden Party To Make A Difference' in the grounds of his official residence, Clarence House.

Next Wedenesday, the Odyssey of Pioneers will stop at Selfridges, London, and TAG Heuer will host there an outstanding event.

On Thursday, August 19, 2010, TAG Heuer, the luxury Swiss watch brand celebrated its 150th anniversary and paid tribute to its pioneering spirit at an exclusive “Odyssey of Pioneers” private cocktail party and timepiece exhibition at The Temple House on Miami Beach. At this exciting event, guests enjoyed libations and hors d'oeuvres while mingling among executives and celebrity guests including: Jean-Christophe Babin (President & CEO of TAG Heuer), Philippe Alluard (President of LVMH Watch & Jewelry Division, Latin America and the Caribbean), Olivia Newton John (Actress & four-time Grammy Award-Winning Artist), Jeffrey Donovan (Actor, USA’s “Burn Notice”), and Jon Secada (Grammy Award-Winning artist and songwriter) among others.

 

Guests also previewed an exhibition of key historical and current TAG Heuer products that underscore the brand’s passion for revolutionizing timekeeping.

TAG Heuer CEO and President Ulrich Wohn welcomed guests, especially, Elon Musk, Chairman and CEO of Tesla Motors Inc.

 

During the event, guests enjoyed cocktails, including Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, and previewed our exhibition of key historical and current TAG Heuer products that underscores the brand’s passion for revolutionizing timekeeping. The TAG Heuer Tesla roadster was also exhibited.

 

The Malibu-based event marked the 11th major stop the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster has made worldwide. In March 2010, TAG Heuer brand ambassador and Academy Award-nominated actor Leonardo DiCaprio kicked off the car’s round-the-world, six-month “Odyssey” in Basel, Switzerland. Since then, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster has visited Monaco, the Great Wall of China and India, where Prince Albert, actor Chen Dao Ming and the Maharaja of India, respectively, drove it.

 

Brand ambassador and tennis champion Maria Sharapova welcomed the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster when it arrived in the U.S. earlier this month, and drove it along the streets of Manhattan Beach, Calif. Throughout the summer, the car will be driven cross-country and stop in cities nationwide, including Las Vegas, Miami, N.Y., where TAG Heuer will host exclusive cocktail receptions on August 19 and Sept. 2.

 

The TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster will travel to London and then Paris for the final leg of its global journey. At the Odyssey’s completion, the car will have traveled more than 25,000 miles over three continents.

Famous Japanese actress Anne Watanabe drove the Tesla and brought the TAG Heuer Pendulum to its showcase.  Jack Heuer, Jean-Christophe Babin and Giorgio Sarne welcomed her on stage.

During the event, Jack Heuer delivered his speech in front of more than 300 VIP, who came to discover the exhibition of our key historical and current products, from the Time of Trip to the Pendulum : " During my years at the helm of the company, I managed just like my father and grandfather, to further develop this highly respected manufacturer of specialty watches into a well know brand. I realise, that many of my initiatives and products have created a solid base, so that my successors were able to build from this base the now world-famous recognised leader in luxury sports watches – TAG Heuer ! I must therefore compliment my successors for their remarkable effort and above all my compliment goes to the entire TAG Heuer team, who since the new ownership of LVMH with our CEO Jean-Christoph Babin and Giorgio Sarne at the helm here in Japan, have really made TAG Heuer a world famous recognised pillar of the Swiss watch industry!"

He also remembered his very first trip to Japan : "I have been in Japan well over a dozen times in my life, but I shall never forget my very first visit in 1972, nearly 40 years ago. In order to learn more about your country, I visited together with the local salesman from Desco, our exclusive Importer/Agent in those years, some of our retail clients in Hokkaido. That is when I learnt to sleep on the floor, on mattrasses you let down from the ceiling, to soake virtually nude in public hot water springs and even to drink the warm blood of a poisoneous snake before eating its grilled body."

 

The artist Shonosuke Okura entertained the guests with Japanese drum. Okury family legacy has been passed down since the 14th century as one of the Noh (Japanese drum) musical families. Shonosuke appeared on his debut stage at age 9. Besides performing on the traditional Noh stages, he has collaborated with various artists in Japan and internationally. He is a cultural producer who promotes the wonder of Japanese culture abroad.

The exhibition will stay in Midtown Tokyo until Sunday, open to a passionate public. During these 3 days, TAG Heuer banners will dominate the main street of Roppongi, the street in front of the venue. This is the last stop of the Odyssey of Pioneers in Asia. The exhibition and the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster will after that cross the US, through Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and New York.

After its prestigious stop at the Shanghai World Expo, the Odyssey of Pioneers just arrived in Japan.

Jack Heuer was there to welcome the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster.

The 100% electric GT car was shooted today in the Meiji shrine.
Mr.Heuer offered a prayer to God for a safe voyage of TAG Heuer Tesla roadster there and rode the car with a Maiko lady sitting to his next.


Yesterday the roadster was in Shibuya, the fascinating area for young people, crossed the Rainbow bridge and was seen around Tokyo Tower and Akihabara, known as the Electric town.


Tomorrow TAG Heuer will host a prestigious event in Tokyo Midtown to celebrate its 150th anniversary, expecting more than 300 people.

Anne, a famous Japanese actress, will drive the Tesla to stage.

TAG Heuer's Odyssey takes the road southward on the Chinese continent.

The TAG Heuer's Tesla roadster left the Imperial City of Beijing to continue its journey toward the upbeat city of Shanghai. In Beijing, the 100% electric GT took a ride along the largest historical building complex in China, namely the Forbidden City and its palaces.

 

It then headed for the second largest, which is the Temple of Confucius, set in Qu Fu, the hometown of this great eastern thinker. There, at sunset, the roadster toured the city and its gems before heading toward booming Shanghai, the trendy side of China, where the Expo 2010 is held under the theme "Better City - Better Life".

 

TAG Heuer and Tesla will enjoy this exciting metropolis for a week, and even participate in the Expo... but first, on June 16th, TAG Heuer's Tesla roadster stopped by the Bund, the famous riverside street lined with historical buidlings and wharves, and drove by the skyline of skyscrapers overlooking the financial district of Pudong, as well as parked in front of the Shanghai TAG Heuer's boutique.

As a new ambassador of the brand, young Chinese GP2 racing driver and aspiring F1 driver Ho-Pin Tung was proud to tour the city with this fireball of an electric car. Ho-Pin was enthousiastic to present TAG Heuer's Tesla Roadster to the Chinese passerbys. Ho-Pin posed in TAG Heuer fashion in front of the iconic landmarks of the former imperial city.

One word that springs to mind when thinking of the MONACO is Audacity: the audacity of  the first square automatic chronograph on the market;  the audacity of a design that mocked the established rules; the audacity of associating it with a rebel actor at a time when the Ambassador concept did not exist.  The MONACO LS Chronograph Calibre 12 does justice to its sire : the movement, the look and design detail all turn received ideas upside down and flout convention : this timepiece is other-worldly.

The movement is a basic Dubois Depraz calibre so that the seconds, shown in a linear date opening, can be read linearly from the tip of a double red rhodium hand. The dial, inspired by the MONACO 360 Concept Chronograph, the polished bridges, the translucent embossed numerals, the chronograph dials and the angled date opening are voice and counter-voice in a black, deliberately hi-tech song sheet. The 40.5 mm case, waterproof down to 100 m, simply had to be made of polished or brushed stainless steel, and its ergonomic shape is achieved thanks to the generously curved and bevelled sapphire glass. The spirit of the MONACO V4 is palpable ... The bracelet in black alligator with a folding clasp adds a classically elegant gloss to the avant-garde look whilst the stainless steel strap, with its unique micro-adjustment device,  underlines the definitely futuristic bent of this Ode to Otherness.

TAG Heuer certainly knows how to give a new lease of life to a watchmaking legend. Resuscitating Steve McQueen is more complicated. An actor, but more than anything a racing driver, he used to say : « Racing is life...... everything before or after is just waiting ». A phrase that Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 Formula 1 World Champion, could have made his own since, aged just 10, he used to pull Ron Dennis’s sleeve saying « One day I shall drive a McLaren ». Thanks to the magic of film, TAG Heuer made the impossible encounter of the Hollywood idol and the virtuoso of the racing circuit possible. For the length of a film, they bandied words, challenged each other and crossed swords.  On the actor’s wrist the original MONACO, on the champion's the MONACO LS. A modern duel dramatising one of the great driving forces throughout history: the spirit of competition. The same spirit that drives the technicians and watchmakers of TAG Heuer when, day after day, they face the challenge of surpassing their own achievements, of doing more to innovate and reinvent themselves. Pioneering luxury Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer and electric carmaker Tesla Motors have teamed up in a worldwide partnership as the iconic Swiss brand celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Unveiled this morning at the Geneva Motor Show is the 2010 TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster. "This one-of-a-kind collector's car includes a unique interior, incorporating TAG Heuer avant-garde design elements and a specially designed center console due to host TAG Heuer’s cutting edge concept watch to be revealed in Basel on March 18th" explained Jean-Christophe Babin. It also includes a TAG Heuer Meridiist mobile phone as well as a one-fifth second Heuer Limited Edition Stopwatch.

 

The interest raised by this new partnership in general and the TAG Heuer roadster in particular has echoed beyond the automotive world : only a few hours after the press conference, google was offering 60'000 references about the topic !

The Swiss watch brand is named “Best in Class” in New Digital IQ Ranking of Luxury Brands

New York, September 27, 2009 – Tag Heuer’s expert use of digital media garnered the highest distinction among luxury watch brands in a new “Digital IQ” ranking system designed by the L2 Luxury Lab of the NYU Stern School of Business. The study, the first and largest of its kind, measured brands on the effectiveness of their digital competence. Each brand was assigned a Digital IQ value and a corresponding term of Genius, Gifted, Average, Challenged or Feeble.


The Swiss watchmaking brand, the world leader in prestige sports watches and chronographs since 1860, placed 8th overall among 109 luxury companies in 11 categories.
TAG Heuer was the only watch brand to be awarded a “Genius” ranking, outperforming all watch competitors. “TAG Heuer clocks a win with Best in Class”, says professor Scott Galloway, Firebrand Partners founder and the Digital IQ’s creator. “Unlike many of its peers, the brand’s site is product-oriented. The “Persona Assistant” helps visitors make selections, and customer service solutions are accessible from almost every page. TAG Heuer showcases its brand heritage and celebrity endorsers with interactive video content. Its deft search engine optimization strategy attracts traffic. Launched at BaselWorld 09, the hugely popular THE DUEL contest was based on a two-part virtual showdown on the legendary track of Le Mans. It is the second win of the season for our world champion Lewis Hamilton, who dominated the 61 lap Singapore Grand Prix in his Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, from start to finish.

 

"This is a perfect end to a fantastic weekend" said Lewis afterwards. "The race was physically very tough for all the drivers, but it was quite straghtforward for me. I made a good start and I knew I was running longer than the guys behind me, so I was able to bridge the gap back to them. It was a very nicely controlled race in that way. We came here hoping for a good result - and I wanted to redeem myself after the last lap in Monza - and we got it !"


On the podium, Lewis Hamilton was wearing a special Singapore limited edition of the new Carrera Cal.16 DD Chronograph.
