Strength & beauty embodied by avant-garde women

12th Septembre 2006 - New York

Fifteen women from fifteen countries portrayed by fifteen woman photographers...

For this extraordinary project, TAG Heuer brought together an array of personalities endowed with exceptional talent and charisma. Each a recognized leader in her domain, the 15 individuals selected — artists, founders of development organizations, journalists, executives and academics — were paired with prestigious women photographers from their own countries. After lengthy preparation, the ambitious project became reality in the late spring of 2006, when photo shoots were held in major cities around the world, including Paris, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Bangkok, New York, and Singapore. Style, environment, atmosphere and format were voluntarily left undefined. These photographs provide us with an array of different interpretations and artistic beliefs, which reflect the many ways of being a woman across the world today through 15 sensitivities and 15 famous women.

This is the first time in the TAG Heuer’s 146-year history that the Swiss watch brand has created an exceptional event dedicated to women around the world, to raise money for a cause that promotes gender empowerment. The project benefited greatly from the personal support of actress Uma Thurman. A TAG Heuer ambassador and an icon of contemporary femininity, Uma Thurman successfully combines strength and beauty, career and family life with a determined commitment to helping the underprivileged.

An exhibition with global reach to benefit UNIFEM

This extraordinary gallery of portraits is unveiled today and forms an international exhibition that is destined to travel the world, from continent to continent until the end of 2006.

TAG Heuer will sell these unique photographs at an auction in 2007. The total funds raised will be contributed to The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to support its activities. Established in 1976, UNIFEM is the women’s fund at the United Nations dedicated to advancing women’s rights and achieving gender equality. UNIFEM works on the premise that it is the fundamental right of every woman to live a life free from discrimination and violence, and that gender equality is essential to achieving development and to building just societies.

TAG Heuer’s committed vision

Through this project, TAG Heuer, which expresses its committed vision of today’s women through the powerful design and avant-garde beauty of its luxury watches, shows its determination to support the rights and empowerment of women everywhere. The brand is proud to participate in this great homage to women and to stand with these extraordinary individuals in the shared conviction that only by advancing the condition of women can we hope to advance all of humanity.

Backed by its international renown since 1860 as the leading brand of prestigious and luxury sports watches and chronographs, TAG Heuer demonstrates its commitment alongside today’s “modern and active” women, contemporary women of all nationalities and from all backgrounds.

“TAG Heuer seeks to pay homage to today’s women, their determination, independence, modernity and success. It is not enough just to say it; it needed a strong and symbolic gesture. From the outset, we established privileged partnerships with our ambassadors. Together with them, we develop and create watches. The idea for this exceptional event has arisen from our many meetings with our women ambassadors Uma Thurman, Sushmita Sen and Maria Sharapova. It aims to be both a mirror of our brand and a contribution to a more equitable world. As an international group, we have called on celebrities from around the world who personify our values of prestige, elegance, avant-garde, strength and beauty. I am very proud to develop such a project with the support of both Uma Thurman and UNIFEM.

On a more personal note, as the CEO of TAG Heuer, an internationally renowned brand, I am particularly happy that this exhibition is being launched here in New York, a crossroads of cultures, nationalities and destinies. For me, New York is an eminently feminine city: it symbolises energy, passion and freedom.”

Jean-Christophe Babin, President and CEO TAG Heuer
