From the Tour Down Under victory to its celebrated partnership with TAG Heuer, BMC has perfectly launched its 2017 season.

With new sport seasons comes a fresh start and new objectives. But after a period of rest and preparation, we often feel as with we’re still in lapping. Successful launching is not easy, but BMC managed it as part of the Tour Down Under. Here's how the elite cycling team triggered a perfect start to the season.

By aiming a high-stake competition…

For the last 18 years, the cycling season has opened in Australia with the Tour Down Under. This stage race organized around Adelaide is ideal to launch its season. Its course is comprehensive, some stages favor massive sprints while others take place on the heights of Willunga. The route is tricky and puts all participants under high pressure. A profile that promotes teamwork and the main teams of the UCI circuit is not mistaken. This year, just as in previous years, the best teams were in the game, spanning from the Sky to the Movistar through BMC. Several cycling stars were also competing for the final victory, from Rohan Dennis to Gorka Izaguirre to world champion Peter Sagan.

…to win it…

But of all the favorites, only one could prevail. And the great winner of this 2017 edition is Richie Porte. The Australian rider from the BMC team was playing at home. Before his public, the leader of the American team knew to avoid the traps and knocked down the race from the second stage, supported by the excellent work of his teammates. By winning solo on the summit of the coast of Paracombe, he had reached the podium... and wasn’t going to step down. He even broke the nail in even further on Saturday by also winning the 5th stage. As the final winner, he finally triumphed in this race that he had missed for years.

…and reach beyond

Admittedly, the season has only just started and these BMC victories should be followed by others in the weeks to come. But that does not stop anyone from celebrating the successes of early 2017. Rohan Dennis and Miles Scotson, runners of the team, were present Friday on the roof of the Hilton in Adelaide, with about 80 VIP and guests. Together, they celebrated the partnership between their team and TAG Heuer. They were able to prove their ability to resist pressure by raising the TAG Heuer Speed Challenge, performed using a simulator. They also autographed the TAG Heuer BMC Teammachine SLR01 Dura Ace edition bikes, which will soon be shared on the TAG Heuer Facebook page. Like BMC, you will also be able to successfully kick-start your season!
