Calibre 360 Chronograph

The world’s only 1/100th of a second mechanical chronograph

Evolving out of the unique heritage of TAG Heuer chronographs and the links between Carrera collections and automobile racing - the Calibre 360 Chronograph.

Evolving out of the unique heritage of TAG Heuer chronographs and the links between Carrera collections and automobile racing - the Calibre 360 Chronograph. A 1/100th of a second mechanical chronograph which is 10 times faster than any other mechanical watch movement.

In 1916, TAG Heuer invented the world's first mechanical stopwatch accurate to 1/100th of a second – the Mikrograph.

In the 1960s, as a tribute to the Carrera Pan-American Rally, Jack Heuer designs the Carrera wrist chronograph. Its minimalistic, functional design and high-level precision make it an instant classic.

In 2005, the Carrera Calibre 360 concept watch arrives at Baselworld. It is the direct result of 150 years of  TAG Heuer mechanical chronograph expertise.

The Calibre 360 beats with two hearts: 2 series of escapement mechanisms. These allow the timepiece impressive accuracy because the chronograph is not simply a section added to the main watch. It is an entirely separate movement with a high frequency balance wheel operating at 360,000 beats per hour. This is 10 times faster than any other mechanical watch movement.

Such precision requires 230 separate pieces, and a super lightweight and miniaturized escapement mechanism and spiral (the diameter of which is less than 26 % of a regular balance wheel). The Calibre 360 has no less than 3 international patents:

  • the 1/100th of a second mechanical chronograph
  • a bidirectional crown
  • a complex date transmission system

The Carrera Calibre 360 Concept Watch pays homage to the Carrera collection and the TAG Heuer's unrivalled heritage in the world of chronographs.

Heritage styling meets leading edge technology

Inspired by the TAG Heuer chronographs of yesteryear, the Carrera Calibre 360 has a streamlined design which is simple to use and easy to read. It has a large stopwatch/ winding button, a 100 minute power reserve counter at 12 o'clock, and an oversized 1/100th of a second counter at 6 o'clock.

Ten times faster than any other mechanical movement for watches

The Calibre 360 beats with two hearts: 2 series of escapement mechanisms. These allow the timepiece to maintain a regular beat of 28,800 beats/hour, and to attain 360,000 beats per hour in chronograph mode. This is 10 times faster than any other mechanical watch movement.

No less than 3 international patents

The Carrera Calibre 360 has 3 international patents:

  • the 1/100th of a second counter on a mechanical chronograph
  • a bidirectional system for resetting and for the crown: a single crown controls the automatic watch and the mechanical chronograph as well as the time and date functions
  • a complex date transmission system
