Alain Prost
The word legend is often overused. People say ‘legendary’ when they mean simply ‘well-known’ or ‘exceptional’. But applied to Alain Prost, the word legendary takes on its full force. Prost is the second most prolific winner in F1 history. Over his 13 year F1 career, Prost took 51 victories, 33 pole positions, 41 best laps and 106 podiums in 199 races. In 1999 he joined sports heroes Pelé and Muhammad Ali in the prestigious list of World Sports Awards of the Century. Legendary indeed.
Born in St.Chamond in France’s Loire Valley, Prost was an energetic risk taker from the outset, forcing his limits in whatever sport he took on. At age 14 he discovered karting on a family holiday, and an interest grew into the fully blown passion which would catapult him through the ranks of French junior motor sports into a spot on the McLaren Formula One team in 1980.
Known as The Professor for his intelligent, relaxed driving style, Prost is one of motor-racing’s foremost stylists. His attention to detail, competitive edge and impeccable craft are qualities shared with TAG Heuer. A relationship that goes back to the golden age of Formula One, when Prost battled regularly with another TAG Heuer brand ambassador, Ayrton Senna. Later Prost was wearing TAG Heuer colors and chronographs when he won three of his four Formula One World championships for McLaren in the late 80s.
