![]() Lewis Hamilton - BiographyPersonnal stats Lewis Hamilton has taken the Motor racing world by storm, starting with an early career in karts, kicked off at the tender age of eight. It didnt take the young Brit very long at all and he was standing on the highest step and taking his first British Karting Championship two years later at the age of ten. This was just the first of four very impressive crowns in the series, putting him on McLarens radar as a future world champion. At thirteen he became the youngest racer ever to be signed on to the McLaren Driver Development Support programme after impressing McLaren Formula one team boss, Ron Dennis. This was the start of a long term contract that now sees this highly talented racer step up into the world of F1 for the 2007 championship season at just twenty two years of age. Although testing in an F1 car has been limited, Lewis has all the credentials needed to race in the series. After graduating from karts, the next step was Formula Renault, finishing third overall in his debut season before dominating in his second, so much so that by the time the 2003 season came to a close he had already captured a record winning title consisting of ten victories, nine fastest laps, eleven poles and nailing the crown with two races remaining! Following on the heels of this highly successful campaign, Lewis moved up into the highly competitive Formula 3 Euroseries for Manor Motorsport, where he finished fifth overall in his and their first season. The season was by no means fruitless however with one victory and a total of five podium finishes coming his way. He continued in the series in 05, moving to the ASM team where he took championship honours before making his next move to GP2, Formula Ones feeder series. Racing for the championship winning ART Grand Prix team in what was only the second year of the championship, Lewis defended their crown and took them back to the top of the standings, taking the crown in dominant fashion series which even included winning both rounds of the European GP and the British GP, becoming the only driver in the series to win both events on two weekends. His dominant performance at the well known drivers track in Monte Carlo, where he took the win from pole position earned him accolades up and down pitlane. At the end of the season, not long after McLaren announced that Lewis would be contesting his rookie season in Formula one alongside Fernando Alonso in the 07 championship, a brilliant driver line up if there ever was one. |
